Spotlight On The UpToDate App (Restricted to Pharmacy & Nursing Students)

Are you a nursing student or pharmacy student? Only have your phone to look things up? UpToDate has a great feature you will want to check out. 

UpToDate is a database available to you as a nursing or pharmacy student of the Union community. UpToDate has information for “evidence-based clinical decisions” at point of care. You can find patient care resources, graphics, drug interactions, and calculators. UpToDate which is accessed from the Databases, E-books, and Media quick link or from the Finding Articles tab of the nursing research guide. Using UpToDate from your computer is great, but UpToDate takes it one step further with an app that is available for both Apple and Android users. The app has the same search features as the computer-based option and even has a voice recognition option.   

To use the app: 

  1. Go to UpToDate on a computer using Union WiFi or a computer in the library 
  1. Create an account for UpToDate using the “register” button 
  1. Download the UpToDate app to your phone or tablet 
  1. Log into the UpToDate app using the username and password you created on the computer 
  1. Start using UpToDate  

The app is free for you to use, but you will need to verify that you are a member of the Union Community by logging into your UpToDate account on a computer while using Union WiFi or a library computer. You will need to do this every 90 days.

Spotlight On CINAHL

Calling all nursing students and faculty: we have a great resource for you to use! CINAHL is a top database choice for nursing research. You can find articles from over 603 nursing and allied health journals including the publications from National League for Nursing and the American Nurses’ Association. There are articles for nursing, biomedicine, alternative medicine, consumer health. You can even find health care books, nursing dissertations, standards of practice, and audiovisual materials.  

To access CINAHL, use the link on the Finding Articles page of the Nursing Research Guide, or find the link listed alphabetically on the Databases, E-books, and Media quick link on the library homepage.  

CINAHL is hosted through EBSCO, which means you can search in CINAHL and other EBSCO databases like Academic Search Complete simultaneously. Searching in both databases will broaden your search and make your searching more efficient. Use the Journal Subset field filter in your search and the term nursing to narrow your search.
