How to Use Films on Demand in Moodle Rooms

Are you a Union faculty member trying to embed Films on Demand in your Moodle Rooms page? With our current proxy server setup, you cannot embed titles or segments with the UU proxy authentication. We are in conversations with Films on Demand and Moodle Rooms, and hope that a more transparent, less clunky process will be in place in the next 2-3 weeks; when that happens, we will notify all faculty of the new process.

For now, here are two options for using titles or segments.

  • Option 1: Simply link to the video rather than embedding it.

Step 1: In the Films on Demand page of the video you wish to share, go to the share tab below the video.

The first option is Direct Links.

Step 2: Highlight and copy the URL you need. The Title URL will link to the beginning of the full video. The Segment URL will link to the current segment.

Step 3: Paste that URL in Moodle Rooms and that’s it! If your students are accessing the content off campus, they will be directed through the normal login for library resources where they can use their UU username and password.

  • Option 2: Embed a Films on Demand video or segment without the UU proxy authentication. This will require that your students first create a Films on Demand user account.

Step 1: Use this link https://ezproxy.uu.edu/login?url=http://digital.films.com/PortalPlaylists.aspx?aid=13753 to your student login to Films on Demand and create a user account. Under the My Films drop down is an option to create an account.

Step 2: Embedding your video: In the Films on Demand page of the video you wish to share, go to the share tab below the video.

Step 3: The third option on the Share menu is Embed Code. Highlight and copy the Embed Code.

Step 4: In Moodle, you will paste this code in an html content box. First click on the More Buttons icon.

Then click on the html icon.

Paste the Embed Code copied from Films on Demand

Your saved page should show the Films on Demand Login screen and your students can login with their FOD account.
